Me: My name is Esther. I’ve grown up a lot in the past few years.
I teach 9th grade English at a small public school in the Watts/Compton/South LA area. Life here is ALWAYS challenging and (almost) ALWAYS entertaining. I love my kiddos, who crack me up, and inspire me to be a better teacher. I have a few leadership capacities as well, at the school and district level. My work consumes me and I love it. I am passionate about urban schooling and education reform/policy (specifically the work surrounding teacher effectiveness, support, and evaluation). I’ve got dreams.
I spent my formative teenage years in Long Beach and I consider it my hometown, even though I was born in Guatemala and have also lived in Inglewood and Los Angeles.
I tend to take on a little too much and tend to be stressed out.
Exercise mellows me out. Current obsessions include training for a half-marathon and toning via Bar Method.
When I am not doing school or work related things, I enjoy being with those I love and/or being lost in my thoughts. I am almost always planning my next trip to somewhere, anywhere! Since turning 18, I’ve managed to make it to many places(Cambodia, Thailand, China, Guatemala, Panama, Mexico, France, and Spain, not to mention a lot of great places in the good ole’ USA) and I’m eager to continue my journeys. I enjoy good food/beverages, books, and music… then again, who doesn’t?
There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
We love because he first loved us.
The website: Changeable.net was purchased and started up in 2005. I canceled the webhosting to it in October 2008 and moved to wordpress because it was free and webdesign was no longer a huge interest for me. I write about anything and everything; usually vague, always honest. Archives are available, by date, on the side and/or bottom depending on my current configuration. The first few years’ worth of archives (imported from two old domains and a livejournal) are the epitome of immaturity, so do read at your own risk. Or you know… DON’T. I started this blog when I was younger than my students are now. I keep those archives around since they help to tell the story of how I got to where I currently am in life. I sincerely apologize for the horrible things I said.
