Monday morning, I am hopping on a bus with 3 other friends of mine. Together we are going to be the counselors for an inner-city camp for kids whom we have never met before.
Did I mention that there are about 5 bathrooms (let me rephrase that: 5 toilets) and 3 showers for 60-100 people? That is a whole other thing… nobody knows who really is going, and we will not know until Monday morning when we pull out of the parking lot with kids on the bus.
I could tell you more, but we may as well wait until I get back for me to share the details.
Just be excited for us! We have no idea where this camp is (I think it is somewhere between 5-8 hours away), so I cannot even share that much. This trip is so not about me, we are just trying to help out with a worthy cause that is all about the kids… regardless, I forsee a lot of interesting experiences coming up over these next few days. My favorite activities from when I was between the ages of 8-12 (our understanding is that these are the correct ages!) took place while at “camp” in the mountains, so hopefully we are able to make it a worthwhile experience for them.
And if you pray… please pray for me and for my family… no details yet, but this has been one heck of a week; I do not want to be all down while trying to do a good thing.Stay tuned for stories!
I totally am envious of you, actually — I was planning to help out with a camp in Michigan for inner-city kids from Chicago, but it coincides with my church’s Habitat trip, and then our summer retreat. But you’re totally going to have a blast
I was a camp counselor for 8 weeks for junior high kids. That was nuts.
Yeah I’ll be lifting up your fam… don’t lose hope!
